‘Whooping Crane Strut’ Saturday in Rockport
The 26th Annual Whooping Crane Strut will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Rockport Memorial Park, 1601 Farm-to-Market Road 2165. This chip-timed event includes a 5K and 10K run, plus a two-mile walk. The race course will be on the Memorial Park and Tule Hike and Bike Trails. Cost of entering is $28 per person in advance or $33 per person the day of the event.
Awards will be presented to the overall man and woman winners of each event, the new Masters Category, and to first, second and third place finishers in their respective age categories for each event, says the Victoria Advocate. Registrants will also receive an event T-shirt.
Registration forms are available in Rockport at Rockport City Hall, the Bay Education Center, the Community Aquatic Park, the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, and on-line at www.cityofrockport.com and www.onestoprace.com.
Volunteers are also needed to assist at drink stations and to serve as race marshals. Each volunteer will receive an event T-shirt and will be entered into the door prize drawings following the awards presentation. Those interested in volunteering should contact Tom Staley at 361-790-1136.
