June 4th is only just two short weeks away. Students, teachers, and campus visitors with Victoria I.S.D. will soon be able to say goodbye to face masks.
Governor Abbotts Executive Order Brings and End to Face Masks in Some Cases
June 4th also happens to be the final day that Governor Abbott's executive order allows for any public school to enforce a mask policy on students, teachers, or even on-campus visitors. This order was signed back on May 18th and can be read in full here. The order also says that any local governments or officials who attempt to impose such a mask order that conflicts with Abbott's May 18th order could be subject to fines of $1000. Abbott took to Twitter on the 18th to share the new executive order saying the plan allows Texas to 'mitigate COVID-19 while defending the liberty of all Texans to CHOOSE whether or not to wear a mask.'
Victoria ISD Votes to Keep Mask Requirement Until June 4th
Crossroadstoday.com's Brandon Davis reported parents were on hand during the VISD board meeting to share their concerns about removing the mask mandate now instead of waiting until the June 4th deadline established by Governor Abbott. The VISD board then voted 4 to 3 to keep the mandate for now, despite the calls from parents to do away with it.
With just two weeks to go, it's really the home stretch on masks in Texas in most places. Let's hope it stays that way.
Will You Continue to Wear a Mask After June 4th?
We have started to hear from our own listeners as well as friends and family members that there are some who will want to continue to keep wearing a mask or face covering even though they are not required in most places. There are some who also wish to keep wearing a mask even if they have received a 'full vaccination'.
While I love seeing smiling faces, I must say to each their own on this issue. If you want to keep on wearing it for whatever reason that is up to you. The Governor's executive order protects your liberty to choose to wear a mask or not to wear one. I'm just glad that so far someone is still looking out for our freedom to make that choice.
