Victoria ISD's plan to begin the school year with remote learning will not change due to the latest guidance from the state. Attorney General of Texas Ken Paxton's legal notice will not chance Victoria's plans to hold off on face-to-face learning until after Labor Day.

Crossroadstoday.com reports that VISD plans to stick with remote learning following the announcement from Victoria County Health Authority Dr. John McNeill which prohibits in-person learning for public schools in Victoria County through September 7th.

While announcing guidelines for the state, Paxton said, “While local health authorities may possess some authority to close schools in limited circumstances, they may not issue blanket orders closing all schools on a purely preventative basis. That decision rightfully remains with school system leaders.”

In a statement to parents, VISD Superintendent Quintin Shepherd said, “Since that time the State of Texas has revised guidance for school districts, essentially jeopardizing funding for any district that complies with such control orders issued by a local health authority. Regardless of the change in guidance from the State, the district feels it is in the best interest to continue with the same revised start plan.”
