Victoria Chosen to Host TAAF Winter Games Beginning 2022
Winters are normally mild for Victorians and I hope after the week we've had, we all have a chance to be outdoors to enjoy some sunshine this weekend.
It's with those thoughts in mind that we are happy to help announce Victoria has been chosen as the designated city to host the 2022 Winter TAAF- Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Games- next winter through Winter 2024.
In a civic alert from the City of Victoria posted earlier this week, which you can read in its entirety here, the City of Victoria announced Victoria has been chosen to host the annual Texas Amateur Athletic Federation TAAF Winter Games beginning in 2022 to 2024!
This will mean amateur athletes from all over the state will enjoy three days of TAAF athletic events throughout the City of Victoria in February 2022, which will mean some of our finest sports areas in the community like our Youth Sports Complex and VISD Aquatics Center getting highlighted as well as our amateur athletes.
The civic alert includes a quote from Victoria Parks and Rec Director, Jason Alfaro, who offers, "Being able to host an event like this is huge, not only will it bring athletes from around the state, but it sends a message to event organizers that we’re here and we’re open to hosting these types of events.”
City officials include, that in addition to raising Victoria’s profile, the event is expected to provide a sizeable economic impact by drawing visitors to Victoria. Cities that have hosted the TAAF Winter Games historically see an economic impact of roughly $1 million during the three-day event compared to about $30,000-$40,000 in expenditures.
16 various sports have been identified that could be hosted at City and VISD facilities which include baseball, softball, football, gymnastics, pickleball, and swimming.
Congrats to Victoria Parks and Recreation, the City of Victoria, and our amateur sports enthusiasts and athletes. Go Team VICTORIA!
