Heat Advisory Issued for Victoria County
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Victoria County through 7 PM this evening.
The weekend forecast will be a warm one in south Texas with triple-digit heat arriving for the next few days. Be sure to drink lots of water and keep out of the sun if possible. Young children and pets should never be left alone in a vehicle on a weekend like this under any conditions.
The weekend heat index is expected to reach 113 with heat and high humidity in place for the afternoon with similar conditions possible on Saturday and Sunday. Anyone working outdoors should take precautions, stay hydrated, and check on coworkers who may also be out in the heat. This is one of those weekends when it will pay to be able to spot the signs of heatstroke in such conditions. Be sure to catch breaks inside an air-conditioned room if possible. If you are around anyone who is overcome by the heat they should be moved to a cool shaded location. Then call 9-1-1 for help.
If you have pets who are outside this afternoon please bring them inside if you can and make sure they also have plenty to drink. Conditions are likely to remain the same over the weekend with high temperatures around 101 to 103. It could be very likely that a heat advisory is issued for each day of the weekend but for now, today's advisory is set to expire at 7 PM.
