Delia’s Tamales Raided by FBI in San Antonio and Valley
Yesterday afternoon, the legendary Delia's Tamales started to trend on social media. Why? An presence FBI agents at multiple locations in the Valley in San Antonio.
MyRGV.com to reports that dine-in customers could be seen emerging from the restaurant’s front door and leaving in their vehicles. A Spokesperson for the FBI confirmed that the agents were conducting “court authorized” activity at the restaurant.
Delia's has long been under the microscope for wage fraud and age discrimination. In October of 2023. two dozen former employees of Delia's Tamales, some of them undocumented residents, sued them. Alleging decades’ worth of fraud, theft, age discrimination, retaliation and threats.
Some of the claims state that Delia’s obtained fraudulent Social Security numbers for its employees, then withheld Social Security deductions from their paychecks.
Former employees also claim the company kept those payroll deductions for itself.
For those that threatened to report the actions of Delia's tamales. They were told that they would report those employees to immigration officials.
One of the latest development claims that for years the company has maintained two sets of books — one to record legitimate business and payroll accounting, and another to record illicit transactions, such as under-the-table payments to employees.
