This evening, the Parks & Recreation Department at the City of Victoria is closing all public entrances to Riverside Park from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. to allow for firework testing within the park.

All traffic including non-vehicular traffic such as cyclists or pedestrians is to cease as all entrances will be barricaded. Officers from the Victoria Police Department will be monitoring the area to prevent attempted traffic. Access to The PumpHouse Riverside Restaurant and Bar, the Texas Zoo, and Boulevard Lions Club Pavilion will remain open. Afterward, the park will resume it’s normal hours of operation, which are from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Riverside Park consists of over 660 acres of land which include picnic tables, playgrounds, a golf course, trails to walk, run, or fish by the Guadalupe River. These areas are meant to encourage the gathering of individuals from the community, allowing them to connect with their family or enjoy leisure time. As the park attracts multiple families year-round, the City of Victoria is testing out fireworks to see how ideal it would be to potentially host a firework show in the future for various events surrounding the holidays.

If you plan on visiting the Victoria Zoo, PumpHouse Riverside Restaurant, and Bar, or Boulevard Lions Club Pavilion and want to view the map regarding the barricades at entrances to the park, you can visit the cities website here: regarding the closure of the park.
