President Biden Signed a Proclamation to stop the construction of the Southern Wall.

One of the first proclamations signed by President Biden when he took office in January was to sign an order on January 20th, 2021 to stop the construction of the "Southern Wall" with additional plans to redirect the wall funding. You can read the full proclamation here.

Gov. Abbott announced he will continue to build the wall, with Mexico.

Gov. Abbott announced on Thursday, June 10th, 2021, that he plans to continue to build with Mexico citing a "humanitarian crisis," along the southern border of our state and neighboring Mexico.

Does Gov. Abbott have the authority to continue to build the wall?

"It’s unclear whether Abbott has the authority to build a wall on his state’s southern border; while some of the land is owned by the federal and state governments, much is also private property, which was an obstacle the Trump administration faced in its efforts to construct a wall," offers NBC News in their latest report adding, "Abbott said people who enter Texas illegally will face arrest and confinement for trespassing and announced he has created a task force to help formulate ideas on how to stop undocumented immigrants and illegal contraband from entering the country."

Gov. Abbott announced a special Task Force on Border and Homeland Security.

On Thursday, June 10th, Gov. Abbott hosted a Border Security Security Summit in Del Rio Texas announcing a border security plan to crack down on illegal border crossings in Texas announcing that " individuals who enter Texas illegally will be subject to arrest and confinement for trespassing." He also announced the Governor's Task Force on Border and Homeland Security which included a multitude of law enforcement and military agencies.

The Governor also announced on the Office of the Texas Governor website page which you can read here,  that the "State of Texas will be taking decisive action to expand the border barrier with "more details provided next week."

Texans and the nation are waiting to hear what decisive action Gov. Abbott plans to take.
