Children are our most precious cargo. If they ride in the car in a child safety seat, it's important to make sure that they're installed properly. That's why the Texas Department of Transportation is offering free inspections at statewide district offices.

In Victoria, you can stop by the Region 3 ECI Family and Child Expo at the VISD Conference Center at 22909 Miori Lane today from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. or, the Victoria County Public Health Department at 2805 N. Navarro on Tuesday, September 20th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 3 out of 4 child car seats are not properly installed. Common child safety seat errors include: installing the seat too loosely; putting the harness straps through the wrong slots; leaving harness straps too loose; positioning the chest clip incorrectly; and using the wrong seat belt path.

Failure to properly restrain a child can result in a fine of up to $250.
