My first question is, did this person just buy a ticket and forget about it, or throw it away? We don't know! However, this person is running out of time to claim this winning ticket.

According to a press release, the ticket was from the Texas Lotto drawing that took place on November 15. The winning ticket, for the advertised $78 million jackpot, was purchased in Brownsville at Gordon’s Bait & Tackle. The ticket selected the cash option, which means $43,757,233.10 before taxes still remains unclaimed.
Imagine going into the store for some bait for a fishing trip and becoming a millionaire. We hope this person claims their prize. Another big win that supports my theory of huge lottery wins happening at inconspicuous-looking buildings.

Time is running out to claim the winning ticket.
The ticket will expire if not validated by May 14. Since the winning ticket is worth so much, the winner must call the Texas Lottery to make an appointment at Lottery Headquarters. The ticket must then be presented in person for validation to claim the prize.

A ticket holder forfeits any claim to a prize for a draw game after the 180-day period following the draw date. There are rare occasions for an extension; one exception can be made for military personnel.
