What's More Fun Than Graduating from College With Your Grandpa?

Over the weekend, one Texas college student was all smiles as she walked the stage as a UTSA graduate. She had the honor of pushing her grandpa across the stage in his wheelchair as he received his honorary degree from UTSA as well.

This is one of the most heartwarming stories we've read so far this week... Grandpa and Granddaughter graduate together!

UTSA communication's graduate Melanie Salazar was beaming as she walked her 87-year-old terminally ill grandfather, Rene Neira, across the stage during Sunday night's UTSA graduation ceremonies. Salazar had earned her degree in Communication while Neira graduated with recognition in Economics.

Looking back, I would have been equally honored to have graduated with my grandparents as well.

My paternal grandparents were late immigrants from Switzerland and they were some of the hardest working people I'd ever meet. I didn't consider asking many questions about their education when I visited with them in the summertime in New York, but looking back, I would have loved to have spent more time with them, even graduating with them would have been an honor. From the smiles on Melanie Salazar's face, you can tell she shares my sentiment.

You have to see this, it's from KENS5 on Youtube.

Such a heartwarming moment was shared between grandfather and granddaughter especially as KENS5 reports that Mr. Neira is in hospice care at this time. This will be a memory the family, and each of the people in attendance will not forget.
