Texas Game Wardens had a busy week last week in San Antonio. According to a Facebook post from Texas Game Wardens, Texas Game Wardens located 381 whole shark fins and an additional 29.2 lbs of frozen shark fins inside the restaurant’s commercial freezer. The case is pending against the restaurant/owners and all shark fins were seized as evidence. What a horrible crime! Texas Game Wardens did not name the restaurant, citing an ongoing investigation.

According to a news report by KSAT-12, Sharks are Aapex predators! Sharks are critical to oceanic ecosystems. They maintain the food chain and serve as an indicator species. Between 70 to 100 million sharks are killed every year for their fins. If sharks don't have their fins, they would just sink to the bottom of the ocean and they would not be able to breathe." WHY ARE SHARK FINS AT A RESTAURANT?

 Shark fins are used to make shark fin soup, a delicacy once prepared exclusively for the Chinese emperors and nobility. The cartilage from the fin is carefully dried and prepared and used as an ingredient in a soup flavored with seafood or chicken broth and herbs. Shark finning is the act of removing the fins from the shark and discarding the rest of the shark back into the ocean and in most cases, those sharks will die from their inability to breathe.
