Wow, Texas Night Sky Lights Up With Meteor Thought to Be Aliens

It sounds like the title for an article in the National Enquirer and I'm actually okay with it.

With all the leaked and released footage of presumed UFO sightings ( now known as UAPs) and our most recent climbs to the edge of space on rocket rides ( Spaceship 2, Falcon 1, New Shepard) it's no wonder why anyone on this planet wouldn't first suspect that the flaming ball whipping through the Texas night sky last night might be aliens.

And who could blame us? Think of what the entire last year and a half have been like. Honestly, would you even be surprised at this point to learn aliens were landing in our great state? Ya. Me either.

Last night a fireball was captured on several cameras as it went streaking through the night sky in North Texas. NASA reports it is a meteor.

NBC News offers this compilation of security, surveillance, and some personal videos on Youtube taken during the meteor's descent to Texas. Check it out.

Perusing several news sights, it seems AMS Meteors has documented that over two hundred people from Austin Texas to Springfield Missouri have reported they saw the fireball streak through the sky around 9 pm Central Time last night.

What does NASA say?

According to NASA Meteor Watch on Facebook which you can view in detail here, the fireball was indeed a meteor. "The meteor was first seen 48 miles above Texas Highway 11, between Sulphur Springs and Winnsboro. Moving northeast at 30,000 miles per hour, it traveled 59 miles through the upper atmosphere before fragmenting 27 miles above U.S. 82, east of Avery. The fireball was at least as bright as a quarter Moon, which translates to something bigger than 6 inches in diameter with a weight of 10 pounds."

It was thought to have burned up before impact.

You might be wondering what the difference is between meteors, comets, and meteoroids? One of my favorite explanations is this one from Royal Museums Greenwich on Youtube.
