It's true! Well, that's according to gambling.com.

The Whataburger With Cheese is the nation’s healthiest fast-food chain cheeseburger, according to a study conducted by Gambling.com. The Texas born chain earned a Healthy Rating of 8.4 out of 10.

In-N-Out Burger’s Cheeseburger is the runner up (8.2), while The Checkerburger With Cheese from Checker’s/Rally’s is #3 (6.3).

McDonald’s and their Cheeseburger are joint #7, alongside Hardee’s/Carl’s Jr. 's Small Cheeseburger.

Burger King has the US’s most unhealthy cheeseburger, with a Healthy Rating of only 2 out of 10 - according to this new report.

Despite the increase of healthy eating habits among Americans, many still treat themselves to an occasional fast food treat - like when enjoying the classic match ups at March Madness later this month. And even with all the exotic options available, the humble burger is still the nation’s favorite fast food item.
Following American Heart Month (throughout February), which acknowledges the importance of the ongoing fight against cardiovascular disease, the research team at Gambling.com decided to investigate which US fast-food chain’s cheeseburger is the best for your heart, and body as a whole.
The research team took the standard cheeseburger option from each outlet (where data was available), and analyzed each burger for sugar, fat, salt and calorie content (per ounce). Lower amounts of these four nutritional values are a good thing - so the lower the quantity, the higher the healthiness score is out of 10.

Whataburger has the US’s most healthy cheeseburger. The Whataburger With Cheese performs well in all four categories, without topping any. It has the second lowest fat and calorie contents (per ounce) in the entire study - which contributes to the sandwich earning a final score of 8.4 out of 10. It also performs well in the salt and sugar categories, putting this chain that’s operated in the US for over 70 years at the top of the list.
The Cheeseburger from California born franchise In-N-Out Burger isn’t far behind in second place, with a Healthy Rating of 8.2. Now present in five US states, the chain records the lowest calorie content per ounce in the entire study, as well as the third lowest amounts of fat and sodium.
Checker’s/Rally's Checkerburger With Cheese is in #3. The drive-in franchise’s analyzed burger achieved a final rating of 6.3. In #4 is Culvers, whose cheeseburger variation clocked up an average score of 5.7 out of 10.
Mexican style outlet Del Taco and their Del Cheeseburger is in #5 (5.5), while the Original Cheeseburger from Dairy Queen is in #6 (5.2). McDonald’s and Carl’s Jr./Hardee’s burgers are joint #7.
At the foot of the rankings (#15) is Burger King and their Cheeseburger - which only racked up a healthy rating of 2.0 out of 10, including the study’s worst sugar content per ounce.
When it comes to overall health, there are admittedly much more body-friendly foods than cheeseburgers. But with an ethos of "everything in moderation", burger lovers of the US can now see which cheeseburger is friendliest to their physique when they fancy the occasional treat.
