What was in the water bottle?

It will be weeks before we know what was inside the plastic water bottle, what we do is that the liquid it contained killed a man.

How did Edward Leclair, bring what toxicologists will likely find as poison, into the courtroom?

The answer we might know first is why Leclair felt he needed to end it all right there.

As the guilty verdicts came in one by one from the jury, Leclair, 57, a resident Texan, began to take sips of a mystery liquid in his water bottle. One, two, three, four, five counts of sexual assault with a minor, and a guilty for every single count.

His victim was only 14 years old.

Leclair's defense team was pleading not guilty. It seems like Leclair knew he might be facing 100 years in prison before the jury even read their verdict. He was prepared.

His water bottle was already filled with what he needed to end his life.

By the time the bailiff was notified by concerned courtroom attendees about Leclair's sluggish demeanor, then vomiting in his holding cell, medics could not revive him.

Leclair was charged in 2020 with five counts of sexual assault on a person between the age of 14 and 17. He was facing up to 100 years in prison.

Whatever the murky substance was in his water bottle, he ended his life before justice could be served. At least not on earth.

We will keep you updated in the weeks ahead with the results of the official toxicology report.
