Texas Teen Wins $25,000 for Discovery of Possible COVID-19 Cure
This story comes out of Frisco, Texas. A 14-year-old Texas girl won $25,000 for creating a potential treatment for the coronavirus, according to the 3M Company.
Nelson Middle School eight-grader, Anika Chebrolu won the 3M Young Scientist Challenge has discovered a drug that could POSSIBLY help treat patients that have tested positive for COVID-19.
Anika recently went through a severe case of the flu. It was because of this, Chebrolu decided to take part in the Young Scientist Challenge presented by 3M. She wanted to find a cure for influenza; however, that all changed after the COVID-19 pandemic hit, according to 3M.
In a quote obtained from the 3M website, we get this quote from Anika. “I was drawn towards finding effective cures for Influenza disease after a severe bout of the infection last year,” Chebrolu said. “I would like to learn more from 3M scientists to pursue my drug development and with their help, would like to conduct in-vitro and in-vivo testing of my lead drug candidate.”
Anika hopes to be a medical researcher and professor in 15 years and credits the invention of the internet. Anika says it's a ' treasure trove of information and it has become a valuable asset in pursuing knowledge and conducting research from anywhere and at any time' This young lady has an incredibly bright futre.
