Texas does pretty well statistically in many categories, including oil/gas production and economic development. But according to Forbes Advisor, for the second year, Texas is the worst state for mental health care.

Let's be honest; many of us don't talk about mental health problems with family members or ourselves. It's something none of us want to disclose because of the labels that society places on mental health problems in America.

One in five Americans deals with a mental health condition each year, and most Americans are dissatisfied with the state of mental health treatment in the U.S. The main issues are lack of health insurance, too few treatment centers, and high costs.

Forbes Advisor said Texas has the second-highest number of uninsured adults with mental illness. Texas also has the second-highest percentage of youth with depression who do not receive mental health services.

Texas may be at the bottom, but the survey shows mental health treatment isn't great across the USA. Mental Health America said that more than half of adults with mental illness do not receive any treatment at all. That's roughly 28 million people and more than one in four do not receive treatment.

Texas has the highest number of uninsured residents in the country and has the second highest number of uninsured adults with mental illness.

Texas also has the second-highest percentage of youth with depression who do not receive mental health services.

More than half of adult Texans with mental illness do not receive any treatment at all.

According to Forbes Advisor, the best state for mental health care is Vermont.

It's kind of hard for people, like me, born waaaaaayyyyy back in the nineteen hundreds to grasp how different their world is from the one we grew up in.

So, in honor of those wrapping up their high school careers in 2024, and to make the rest of us feel old, I present a list of disturbing(ish) facts about the class of 2024.
