If you are age 50 to 64 and a Texas resident, you will be eligible to receive the COVID vaccine as a 1C eligible recipient on March 15th, according to the Texas Dept of Health and Human Services.

In January Texas was having issues with receiving enough of the COVID vaccine to vaccinate the front line workers, healthcare, and those with health issues as well as those 65 and older, known as 1A and 1B qualified candidates. As more pharmaceutical companies were released to offer the COVID vaccine, the strain lessened for the nation, and vaccines became more readily available.

Gov. Abbott hinted Texas vaccine availability was on the rise during his riveting press conference last week. The Texas Tribune offers, "Abbott hinted about the vaccine announcement during a press conference last week when he announced he was rescinding the mask mandate and allowing every business —including restaurants, bars, retail stores and sports stadiums — to operate at 100% capacity. Abbott cited a number of key COVID-19 metrics, including a decline in new hospitalizations and the statewide positivity rate, as evidence that Texas is "in a far better position now."

The Texas Department of State Health Services estimates that by Spring 2021 the COVID vaccine will be available for the general public so perhaps this week is just the tip of the iceberg for good news to come.
