Revised Hurricane Forecast Predicts Fewer Storms This Season

It's officially hurricane season now through November 30th (oh, joy), and there may be some good news, relatively speaking. Scientists from Colorado State University have revised their seasonal forecast downward, predicting an average season with 14 named storms, and 6 of those likely to gain hurricane strength.

Of the predicted storms, 2 could be major storms at category 3-5, and they say there's a 51% chance of a major hurricane making landfall along the coast of the United States.

Scientists revised the forecast downward based on colder than predicted water temperatures in the eastern Atlantic, along with the possibility of a weak El Nino this season that can help reduce hurricane development.

Meteorologists do warn that despite predictions of an average hurricane season, people should be cautious. As we all know, it only takes 1 storm to devestate a large area.
