Progress: Victoria Unveils First of Four Master Plans
The City of Victoria is sharing big plans for 2021. So big, let's call them 'Master Plans'. The great news is Victoria is making even more progress towards a better tomorrow for all residents.
Back in September of 2020, the city approved the hiring of consultants to focus on four main master plan projects. Did you know that these projects tie in directly to helping achieve the vision of Victoria's 2035 Comprehensive Plan?
The Focus of Victoria's Four Master Plans
Last September, City Manager Jesus A. Garza said “The master planning process will provide direction for us to achieve the goals outlined in the comprehensive plan." The four plans will help the projects that residents of Victoria have expressed an interest in becoming a reality. The four areas of focus are:
The Thoroughfare Master Plan, Downtown Master Plan, Parks & Rec Master Plan, and the Storm Drainage Master Plan. Phew, that's a lot of plans!
Victoria Unveils the Thoroughfare Master Plan
The Thoroughfare plan guides the progress of our transportation infrastructure towards upgrades in connectivity and growth. This is the plan that will focus on replacing infrastructure but makes headway on reducing traffic, preserving the right of way, easing congestion, and adding more alternative routes that connect the north and south ends of the city. The consultants hired for this project are working on improving and adding pedestrian and bicycle facilities, and looking at possible improvements on North Navarro for those on bikes and on foot.
The Rest of the Story
What details will be unveiled for the other 3 Master Plans (Parks & Rec, Storm Drainage, and Downtown)? Those announcements will be made later this year and are expected to be shared with the City Council by October. We are looking forward to seeing more of the plans and we thank everyone who is working so hard to help improve Victoria.
