Texas is home to Southwest Airlines, and many Texans love to fly the airline because it offers lower airfares. Because of the airline's policy of no reserved seating, travelers have devised creative ways to scam the system in seating and boarding for years, like crumpling up tissues and placing them on the seat next to them, spreading them out onto that seat, placing bags or other items on the seats.

Some even pretend they actually need a wheelchair, and then when the plane lands, it is a miracle! They can walk without one!

I think this scam is the lowest of the lows, playing a system designed to help disabled passengers. There should be a special place in travel hell for those scammers.

As if the previous scams weren't enough, a new one has emerged, this time targeting the overhead storage. According to View From The Wing, the first passenger in a group will place their carry-on horizontally, taking up more space. When the rest of their group arrives, the carry-on is stood up to make room for the new items. This clever yet selfish tactic inconveniences other passengers, but unfortunately, we see more of that behavior today.

Southwest's Flight Attendants create a very lighthearted atmosphere, and you can usually expect a few good jokes on the cabin speaker system. That does make up for some of the inconveniences. I had a recent Southwest trip with a flight crew from Las Vegas. The two male attendants in their 60s put on a 20-minute comedy act that you would catch at a casino in Vegas.

Many of us travel by air, and flying Southwest Airlines from Texas is always affordable and fun.
