Lulu’s Bakery & Cafe Liquidation Auction Underway
Up until last spring, a trip over to San Antonio may have meant a trip to Lulu's Bakery and Cafe. Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020, the doors to this iconic eatery have been closed to the public. Now that the restaurant is officially going out of business, everything must go.
Remembering Lulu's Chicken Friend Steak
Lulu's Bakery was home to one of the most famous Chicken Fried Steak Challenges in South Texas. There are so many videos online of Texans breaking a sweat trying to finish this giant meal under the time limit. Here's a contestant who was actually able to finish in just over 10 minutes. Good lord!
Check Out the "Everything Must Go" Auction
This means an epic online auction is being put together right now to liquidate the restaurant's inventory, equipment, and everything else that used to be inside 911 N. Main Avenue in San Antonio.
RCI Online Auctions will be handling the event online which you can actually start looking at today by taking this link. There are just over 5 days left to bid.
KSAT.com reports that the auction includes everything from all equipment, fixtures, furniture, merch, double fryers, and even the "thank-you" bags given to guests taking food home with them. Menu boards, awards, even the signs saying "Check Out These Buns" are all up for grabs during the auction which ends on Sunday evening.
Some pretty nice items already seeing attention from Lulu's faithful are the dessert cabinet which is up to $350, Lulu's soda fountain has a bid up over $200 as does their large deep fryer.
If you are interested in inspecting items you would like to bid on they are having an inspection day this Saturday at the restaurant.
Remembering Lulu's
Remember when Man vs. Food featured the 3lbs Cinnamon Rolls they used to serve at Lulu's? You can check them out in the video below.
Even the Jonas Brothers made time to visit Lulu's Bakery and Cafe. It was Nick Jonas who went there in 2016 to promote his band's track "bacon".
Who will rise from the ashes as the next place to offer such a Chicken Fried Steak Challenge? Where else can we find a three-pound cinnamon roll? Which places do you recommend to those who are just finding out that Lulu's will not be reopening?
