The Jackson County Youth Fair kicks off Saturday with a parade through downtown Edna. From first responders with area fire departments to student marching bands, more than 80 entries are expected to participate in the longest running parade in the county. This year marks the 65th anniversary, said Dee Darilek, event organizer. Fair Week officially begins Wednesday with the livestock show and runs through Oct. 11. It festivities will be at the Brackenridge Main Event Center, 284 Brackenridge Parkway.

This year, Darilek said event planners kicked up the entertainment, bringing back many crowd favorites, such as the hypnotist show, and adding a performance by the Extreme Raptors and a BMX bike and rollerblade show. "It is good family fun," Darilek told the Victoria Advocate, adding that there is something for everyone.

Admission to the fair is $5 for adults and children over 6 years old. Children 5 and under are free. Daily arm bands into the carnival are $25. Gate sales at the event will go toward next year's fair, and proceeds raised will be returned to the community through scholarships. The fair was able to give out eight $500 scholarships last year.
