One of the most moving quotes I've ever read came from a story Fred Rogers was relaying about one of his childhood memories. I'll never forget it as long as I live.
"When I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people helping.' Fred would go on to say, " To this day, especially in times of disaster, I remember my mother's words and I am comforted by realizing there are so many helpers, so many caring people in the world."
It's great perspective especially to share with young children, and with each other right now.
We knew there were people who would be needing our help in the days ahead.
The question is who and how can we help?
One such local non- profit, Victoria Christian Assistance Ministry, needs our help right away with donations of food, water and hand sanitizer, so that they can continue to help others.  Located at 108 Liberty, VCAM has been a staple of service to those in need. They are accepting donations 8am to noon, Monday through Friday.
The goal of VCAM organization is to help our community members with their most basic and if possible, more extensive needs.

Established in 1986 as a Christian 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. VCAM provides a broad range of services that are typically requested of churches. We operate as a safety net for families and individuals in crisis situations in our community.

 VCAM is currently in dire need of the following items;
Canned Meat
Protein
Beans
Vegetables
Toiletry items
Diapers
Medical items
Canned fruit
Bottled water
Hand sanitizer
Or, you can make a monetary donation here.
If you have more than you need, if you're cleaning out your closet or realize you have more than your pantry can hold, now is a great time to give

As we post closures and postponements we will also keep our community informed of how and where we can help each other.
