It's with a heavy heart we announce that one of our favorite restaurants in Victoria, Francis Marie's Restaurant and Cantina has closed its doors.

At least for now.

Francis Marie's Opened in Victoria Six Years Ago

Frances Marie's Restaurant & Cantina opened its doors in May of 2016 with a heart-felt mission to combine the rich history of our County with traditional Mexican recipes and dishes developed and loved in South Texas.

Why did the restaurant close?

That mission was accomplished and we were better fed for it! But six years ago, restaurant owners, such as Dr. Neill, who is the owner of Francis Maries Restaurant and Cantina wasn't juggling COVID-19, rising food prices, rising gas prices, food shortages, and staffing issues.

Dr. McNeill offers first and foremost, "It's not just 'one' thing."

He continues, "We have some of the most loyal and best people," offering that it was a tough decision to close the doors to the restaurant Sunday evening. "We have been afraid we were not going to be able to keep the vision. Food costs are up 30% and I don't think we've seen the end of rising food costs, and that's just food prices. There have been so many economic changes, and the restaurant was taking too many resources. "Dr. McNeill says. " It's tough because it's you want to do your best."

The silver lining is community support and the possibility of reopening.

Dr. McNeill offers that by 8:30 this morning, folks were already calling to ask him how they could help, knowing how dear the restaurant is to his heart. It sounds like this has been a tough decision for Dr. McNeill as he pauses to offer these thoughts, " For now, we are going to set the reset button and re-evaluate, restructure. I don't know what that will look like but we have options. We will see what happens."
