Yesterday at 4:30 on KIXS 108, I had the honor of officially announcing that Texas country star Josh Abbott will headline the first annual BootFest, to take place Oct. 21-22, 2011. O. C. Garza and Bruce Ure were on hand to let you know that the festival will take place in historic downtown Victoria and is free to the public. In addition to two nights of live music, the festival will feature a barbecue cook-off, Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournament, boot making demonstrations and a “kid’s corral” featuring Radio Disney.

“We’re thrilled to be playing a free show for the folks in Victoria,” Abbott said. “When fans come out to see us, it is our intention to give them one awesome show. Hopefully, we’ll walk away with some new fans and new friends.” Abbott will headline the festival at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22. His performance will be followed by a fireworks show that will be launched from the 12-story building One O’Conner Plaza. Texas country artists Wade Bowen, JB & the Moonshine Band, and Whiskey Myers are also scheduled to perform throughout BootFest.

“Boots, barefooted or something in between, Texans know how to have a good time when music is playing and the smell of barbecue is in the air. BootFest is going to be a great family festival filled with great food, Texas music and fun,” Victoria Mayor Will Armstrong said.

Performance times and dates will be available at www.bootfest.org and facebook.com/BootFest

Park and Ride buses will transport festival goers to downtown Victoria from parking lots around Victoria.
