‘Duck Dynasty’ Star Phil Robertson Under Fire Again for Comments About Marrying Young Girls
'Duck Dynasty' is again in the news for controversial reasons. A video has surfaced on YouTube of patriarch Phil Robertson giving some controversial marriage advice to the men of the world several years ago.
Robertson, who was just welcomed back to A&E after being suspended for his anti-gay comments, is seen in the video advising men to marry underage girls -- girls as young as 15 years old.
The clip is said to have been shot in Georgia at a Sportsmen's Ministry event in 2009. Robertson is doing what he calls 'river rat counseling,' giving his reasons why men should only marry women who are in their teens.
"Look, you wait 'til they get to be 20 years old, the only picking that's going to take place is your pocket," he says. "You got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16. They'll pick your ducks. You need to check with mom and dad about that, of course."
He then proceeds with his unconventional dating advice and tells men they should only date girls who "can cook a meal" and "carries her Bible. That'll save you a lot of trouble down the road."
This isn't the first time Robertson has expressed these feelings. In his book, Happy, Happy, Happy: My Life and Legacy as the Duck Commander, he admits that he married his wife when she was only 15.
"Miss Kay was the perfect woman for me," Robertson writes. "I was sixteen and she was fifteen when we were married. Nowadays some people might frown on people getting married that young, but I knew that if you married a woman when she was fifteen, she would pluck your ducks."
He adds, "If you waited until she was twenty, she would only pick your pockets." The 'Duck Dynasty' star then goes on to say that's it's all a joke, but that he still believes there's a certain amount of truth to the plan of marrying underage.
New episodes of 'Duck Dynasty' with the 67-year-old in them will begin airing on A&E on Jan. 15.
