Dave Winston worked at KIXS 108 from 1987 to 1998. Dave did mornings, afternoons, and everything in between. He was also the Program Director and Music Director for much of that time. I came to work at KIXS 108 in June of 1997. Dave Winston is the man that hired me. Here's the story; I was playing music for a living with Joel Nava and the Border(I was the tall guy with long hair playing guitar and fiddle and singing with Joel). I left the band in about April of 1997. I then worked around the house for as long as I could stand it. At the end of June of '97 I decided I HAD to do SOMETHING... because I was going 'stir crazy' at home. I knew all the guys at KIXS, so I thought I would go see if they were looking to hire anyone. I was sitting in the reception area at KIXS 108 at about 9am on a Thursday morning (as I remember) filling out an application, when Dave Winston came walking around the corner. Dave asked "Joe Bob, what are you doing?" I told him I was looking for employment. Dave walked over, took the application out of my hand, tore it up, threw it in the trash, and asked if I could be back at 2pm. I went to work at KIXS 108 that day. Thank you Dave.

If you have lived in the Victoria area for 20 or 25 years, you probably know Dave. He's a great guy and was a fabulous radio personality. On KIXS 108's 35th birthday, I just wanted to say "thanks again, Dave... for everything!"
