Texas Man Sneaks Gun Past Security and Kills Wife Then Himself
The most alarming detail is the shooting happened inside a county building.
REPORTS OF AN ACTIVE SHOOTER
Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office was surrounded by law enforcement Tuesday afternoon after a fatal shooting took place inside the facility.
Reports came in around 4:45 p.m of an active shooter. Law enforcement quickly surrounded the building. According to officials, a 51-year-old man had reportedly walked into the medical examiner's building and opened fire at a very specific person.
FEMALE EMPLOYEE SHOT AND KILLED
The shooter went in and shot a 46-year-old female employee who, according to Dallas County commissioner, John Wiley Price, was a deputy medical examiner. Tragically, the woman shot was the shooter's wife.
"Dr. Bernard, who is our director, said there was a husband and wife incident, and that the doctor who worked for us had been killed and that apparently her husband then killed himself," Price said.
HUSBAND AND WIFE MURDER-SUICIDE
The man went into the building, shot his wife, then immediately shot himself, killing them both. The startling part is how the man got inside the building with a lethal weapon.
OPENING AN INVESTIGATION
The Dallas County Medical Examiners' office has tight security; it is unknown how the man got a gun inside. "That building is a lot more secure than that, so I don't know if she let him in," Price said.
Investigators are diligently working on how the man successfully breached security. Authorities did confirm the couple was estranged and both were employees of the county.
