46-year-old Alrick "Shawn" Alphanso Barrett, had come to the family home to return a child after a visitation. The grandmother who was at the scene had no idea a sinister plot was about to unfold. Barrett expressed a desire to enter the home, a request that was unsuspectingly granted by the grandmother.

Once inside, Barrett faced his estranged wife and initiated a conversation about rekindling their relationship. His estranged wife, however, had no interest in his proposal. It was at this point the situation tragically escalated.
