As H.E.B. Limits Antibacterial Products, It’s Time For Some D.I.Y.
As concerns for the COVID-19 virus continue to heighten, Texans are taking precautionary measures by stocking up on antibacterial products like hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes. In an effort to keep these products in inventory H.E.B. has had to place a limit on antibacterial items. As of Sunday afternoon, H.E.B. announced via their website their statement which reads, "To be fair to all customers, we are placing a limit of four on several brands of hand sanitizers, wipes and similar items."
That means that H.E.B. customers are limited to four disinfectant products in total, whether you buy four bottles of hand sanitizer or two sanitizers and two disinfectant wipes. This limit also includes online "curbside" ordering as well.
With antibacterial products potentially running low in stock it might be a good idea to consider making your own antibacterial items for your household.
Wellness Momma recommends this recipe for hand sanitizer;
- 1 TBSP rubbing alcohol.
- 1/2 tsp vegetable glycerin (optional)
- 1/4 cup aloe vera gel.
- 10 drops cinnamon essential oil.
- 10 drops tea tree essential oil.
- distilled water (colloidal silver/ionic silver adds antibacterial power if available)
Here is a recipe for disinfectant wipes by Living On A Dime,
Homemade Clorox Wipes
1 cup water
1/4 cup rubbing alcohol
2 Tbsp. Dawn dish soap (only use Dawn)
2 Tbsp. ammonia (optional)
It's advised to cut rags up and soak them in the solution for the ease of tossing them in the washer after use or as an alternative, soak a roll of paper towels in the solution. Be sure to put soaked products in a sealed container, such as a recycled baby wipe container or in ziplock bags as they will dry out otherwise.
Here is a recipe for disinfecting spray from Clean Mama that includes, of all things, vodka.
Handmade Disinfecting Spray
- 1 1/4 cups water.
- 1/4 cup white vinegar.
- 1/4 cup vodka (excellent germ-killing properties – you can substitute rubbing alcohol, but it will have a more medicinal scent)
- 15 drops essential oil – peppermint + lemon OR lavender + lemon are great in this recipe.
- glass spray bottle
Remember what your mother taught you! The number one way to prevent the spread of germs is to wash your hands with warm water and soap often!
