If you grew up in Victoria, chances are you have ties to Dick's Food Store. Either you worked or shopped at one of three original locations: Crestwood, West End (Moody St.), or Lone Tree. My family has a connection to Dick's Food Store. It was my second job out of high school. I sacked groceries and worked produce at the Moody Street location. My dad and grandpa also worked for Dick's at the Crestwood location.

Dick's Food Stores were a family affair that were run by the Dick and Hyak families. George Hyak is the owner and co-founder of Dick‘s Food Store in Victoria, which was founded in 1938. George Hyak's brother in law, Albert Dick became a partner in 1946. For many in the Victoria area, Dick's Food Store is a true symbol of Victoria.

Recently, social media posts have been shared about Dick's Food Store. My first thought was that this historical location in Victoria had closed.  Luckily, I was wrong.    The social media posts were to share the new shortened store hours.

That post has now gone viral throughout Victoria with over 170 shares. Many of those posts came with a the same message, "Show your support for Dick's Foods Store". It appears that the power of social media is working according to a recent post from Dick's Food Store.

There are also so many great stories on how Dick's Food Store has a special part in many Victorian's hearts. Let's continue to support this jewel in Victoria and keep it here for generations to come. SHOP LOCAL!

Check out a few of the comments...

Debbie Horton- I got their bacon for the weekend; I was sooooo good!

Peggy A. Warren- I still support Dicks and they are such a blessing to so many. Their employees always friendly and helpful carrying out my groceries. Many families walk to the store to get what they need and without it they would be lost. My legs are weak and so much easier at 84 to walk through Dicks instead of struggling in a large store. Support your local store as they support you

Brenda Peterson Murphree- Yes! They offer the best customer service. So many great reasons to shop here. Front row parking, meat market, quick in and out service, smaller store/less crowds. Support this locally owned grocery store!

Sam Dick- The sign inside the store says ”through these doors walk the finest people in the world, our customers.” That motto has guided me all through my career. So grateful to have worked for my uncles during high school and Victoria College
