The Museum of the Coastal Bend will host a Volunteering Open House to give people a chance to learn about the museum. The open house will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. The open house is an opportunity to discover what volunteering at the museum is all about. Attendees are invited to check out a selection of hands-on activities as well as the permanent exhibit, "Where Texas History Began". Potential volunteers will learn about the museum's stories, how school field trips work and what kind of public programs are offered. Ongoing activities, such as cannon loading, throwing spears and drawing a life-sized ship outline, will give participants a taste of the interactive learning promoted at the museum Victoria College's main campus. Light refreshments will be served.

"Part of the museum's mission is to educate using the history and heritage of the region, and volunteers are vital to that goal, Isabel Van Dyke, museum curator of education & public programs, told the Victoria Advocate. "Education volunteers share their knowledge and enthusiasm, learn new things and help the museum deliver programs that reach people of all ages from Victoria and the surrounding counties."
