Learning "Stayin' Alive" can help others stay alive after a cardiac arrest. As part of Victoria College's Lunch and Learn Series, this health course will be from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday in Room 101 of the Academic Building on VC's Main Campus. The cost of the course is $9 and includes lunch. Ricky De La Garza, the EMS coordinator and instructor for VC's Workforce and Continuing Education Department, will discuss the American Heart Association's Hands-Only CPR Awareness Campaign that includes the '70s disco classic, "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees, which teaches people how to save lives.

The Victoria Advocate reports nearly 400,000 Americans suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrests every year, and almost 90 percent die because they don't receive immediate CPR from someone on the scene, according to the American Heart Association. CPR can double or triple a person's chance of survival.
