‘Harry Potter’ Author J.K. Rowling Set to Publish Novel for Adults
Like many of us, you probably love the ‘Harry Potter’ books and are eagerly awaiting author J.K. Rowling’s next children’s book. If so, please don’t be offended when we report that Rowling’s next book will be her first adult novel, according to publisher Little, Brown.
While Rowling is remaining tight lipped on what her first foray into fiction intended for the sensibilities of those over 18 will be, it won’t have anything to do with the Hogwarts crew. The 46-year-old said in a statement Thursday,
Although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the ‘Harry Potter’ series, which has been published so brilliantly by Bloomsbury and my other publishers around the world. The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry’s success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher.”
Rowling wrote her last ‘Potter’ book, the spin-off ‘The Tales of Beedle the Bard,’ in 2008. The franchise has sold over 450 million copies, making it the best-selling book series of all-time, and has been translated into 67 languages. In you add up the books, the movie rights, and the merchandising, Rowling has made approximately $800 million dollars off of the boy wizard. So it’s safe to say she can write whatever the heck she wants at this point.
So what will the new book be about? Ladies and gentlemen…start speculating!
