Eric Church Insists That a Fourth Album Is the Last Thing on His Mind

Eric Church is riding high with his second smash hit from his 2011 ‘Chief’ album. ‘Springsteen’ is closing in on becoming the singer’s second consecutive Top 5 single, and it’s well on its way to being a chart-topper in just a matter of weeks, which means single number three will soon be at country radio.

So it’s only natural to wonder if Church has started to think about ideas or a direction for his fourth album — the follow-up to the gold-certified ‘Chief.’ To put it in his own words: “No … hell no!”

“I don’t like making records, I’ll be honest with you,” Church tells Taste of Country. “It’s so hard for me, and it’s hard on me because of what I go through as a songwriter and what I go through in the recording process. Every time it almost kills me. I never look forward to making a record.”

“As successful as ‘Chief’ has been, the great thing about it is we’ve got a long ways to go on ‘Chief’ still because the record is selling,” he continues. “Luckily, it will be a year from now before I even have to start thinking about where in the hell we go from here. We’re going to go deep on this record. It’s a record made for that. I think it’s the best record we’ve made. I think looking back, it will be one of those defined records for us and for our careers. I’m going to go as deep as we can go, and really that’s up to me. The great thing about the label is with the success of it selling, they’re going to leave it up to me. When I come to them and say, ‘Hey, I’ve got the next thing,’ we’ll move on, but it’s going to be a while.”

But Church will have plenty of other distractions to keep him busy until then — like his current headlining trek, the Blood, Sweat and Beers Tour, also featuring Brantley Gilbert. Click here to see a complete list of dates where the tour will be stopping.
