The Country Music Association unveiled the names of this year's Country Music Hall of Fame inductees at a press conference held in the Hall's rotunda. Two legendary artists, and a legendary songwriter/producer will soon have their plaques on the walls of that same rotunda, joining the ranks of Country music royalty. This year's inductees are:
Gordon Stoker, tenor singer for Country Music Hall of Fame vocal group the Jordanaires, died Wednesday morning, March 27, 2013, at Alive Hospice in Nashville. He was 88.
The Jordanaires’ harmonies can be heard on some of the most famous recordings from the 1960s and early ‘70s, particularly the Elvis Presley classics “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Are You Lonesome Tonight,” and “It’s Now or Never.”
1975: Dolly Parton racked up her fifth number one hit with "The Bargain Store." The song's success was considered a surprise because some radio stations refused to play it. They felt the lyrics -- "the bargain store is open, come inside"—were a little too “suggestive!"
1980: Tom T. Hall rejoined the Grand Ole Opry.
1993: Willie Nelson performed a benefit concert in Hillsboro, Texas to raise money for the restoration of Hill County Courthouse, which had been destroyed by fire.
The Country Opry Show is tonight at 7pm at 2104 W. Austin St.in Port Lavaca. Admission to the show is only $5.Tonights music features Darrell and Cathy Higginson, Joanne Hickman, Bill Dragoo, Carol Jasek, Casey Leeann and the Opry Band
Move over, Cupid. Country crooner Eric Church defines true love in a way that puts an arrow through all the lace and swooning, and really gets down to the heart of the matter.
If Gary Allan's chart-topper 'Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain)' was optimistic, his follow-up single 'Pieces' is downright plucky. The uptempo country-rocker may be the most contented single he's ever released.
Dixie Chicks star Natalie Maines has never been one to stand quietly in the corner and keep her opinions to herself. The singer's tell-it-like-it-is style was an important part of the Texas-based trio's enormous success, and was also an important element in their undoing. Now the brash singer is at it again, likening the treatment she's received from country music fans to spousal abuse.
It's no shock that Blake Shelton's 'Sure Be Cool if You Did' video takes place at the local watering hole. Shelton makes no bones about his enjoyment of liquid refreshment. But this video and the song aren't about throwing 'em back and having a good time, or partying mindlessly while ignoring the prospect of hangovers. It's more thoughtful and contemplative.
