Children’s Workshop At Nave Museum Saturday

Nave Museum

Looking for something fun, creative, and, yes, even educational for the kids this weekend? The Nave Museum has just what you’re looking for this Saturday.

The Nave Museum on Saturday will host the final children’s workshop in the series “Make Art With Light,” presented by the Manhattan Art Program. According to the Victoria Advocate, the event will feature workshops ran by internationally-acclaimed artist Jo Wood Brown, and Nave Museum artist Maura Sheehan, whose exhibition “Opposites Attract” is on exhibit. It will be an afternoon of art projects, pizza and prizes.

The museum will become a giant walk-on game board, combining Simon Says, Twister, musical chairs and hopscotch. Children will play and interact with the tiled floor of “Opposites Attract.” Also, participants will be guided through making art pieces of their own, like silhouette portraits using shadows and collage and sun prints with light-sensitive paper. Kids will take over the Nave, making giant 3-D, walk-in drawings using string and the museum itself as a canvas. Artists and volunteers will work with children, teaching them about materials, art-making and light. They’ll encourage them to use teamwork and to let their creativity run free.

The celebration will mark the closing of Sheehan’s “Opposites Attract” – an installation that has enfolded the Nave’s architecture in a playful meditation on light, perception and our own image.

The event takes place at the Nave Museum, 306 W. Commercial St., from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.
