Victoria Animal Control is looking into making several improvements to the facility.

With power outages ravaging Texas last month, Victoria Animal Control was one of the millions of businesses that lost power during the winter storms, giving the staff an opportunity to access much-needed repairs and improvements, including a new heating system designed to keep shelter pets more comfortable during any future electrical outages. Scott Buchanan, Field Supervisor and Senior ACU of Victoria Animal Control offers that he was "able to keep animals at the shelter warm using propane heaters throughout the storm." He also mentions that a generous donor gifted the shelter a 100# tank when propane ran low throughout the Crossroads.

Scott also offers that 2,737 animals went through the facility last year which equates to 228 animals EVERY month.

Equally important to the facility upgrade is changing the flooring with sealed epoxy floors which are known to help deter infectious disease from spreading, especially since our furry friends will be walking across the flooring most often.

Victoria Animal Shelter staff also expressed an interest in seeing murals painted throughout the facility.

In an interview hosted by Ozzy Mora of Crossroads Today,  the Victoria Animal Shelter is currently gathering bids to have their floors "completely redone" said Jose Flores, Chief of Animal Control." Victoria Animal Control expects to have the bids to be able to remodel the floor turned over to Commissioner’s Court by next week for possible approval," Flores said. They are still waiting for a second estimate to come in." The article, which you can read in its entirety concluded here.

Scott offers that the heating upgrade would cost $3,000.00

During the freeze, volunteers contributed to the care and well-being of the facility by donating much-needed and appreciated blankets and additional items. The hope is that improvements can be in place well before the facility sees another power outage.
