As Veteran's Day approaches many folks in the Crossroads are wondering how they can show their support and gratitude for the hard working men and women in our community who serve or have served in our military.

Growing up as an "Airforce Brat," Veterans Day is always a time of pride and reverence for me having watched my father throughout his career, the dedication and pride he had as an airman always makes me teary eyed.

He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant and I always love to see him in his uniform on extra special occasions like my baby sisters wedding.

I have so much love in my heart for the families of veterans too. That's one of the reasons I love splitting my day at the radio station and then at Golden Crescent Habitat for Humanity. They offer repair and modernization for families of veterans. We are proud to give back to those who serve. But one of the best ways to show your appreciation for our veterans on November 11th is to join us downtown for the Veterans Day Parade.

Keep in mind in observance of Veterans' Day nonemergency offices at the City of Victoria will be closed along with the Victoria Public Library. However, landfill and the compost site will be open and garbage, curbside recycling, yard waste and/or tree limbs will be collected as normally scheduled.

Riverside Golf Course will be open and it's funny to think of it, but if my father lived in Victoria that's what he would be spending most of his days doing. Golf is now his favorite hobby. He deserves it.
