You say tomato, I say Tom-Tom Festival

There will be tons of fun and plenty of sun this weekend in Yoakum for the historic Tom-Tom Festival, considered one of the oldest festivals in Texas!

Check this out, tons of tomato history!

Folks in Yoakum and thousands of guests from all over our great state and beyond will be celebrating the Tom-Tom Festival this weekend and get this... the Tom-Tom Festival in 2022 marks this festival's 94th year!

Why is it a "Tom-Tom Festival?"

In case you hadn't guessed, the Tom-Tom festival originated to honor Yoakum’s tomato industry, which was predominant in South Texas dating back to the 1920s.

Fun fact: There are over 10,000 different types of tomatoes in the world!

But, there is only one Tom-Tom Festival in Texas!

Tom-Tom is one of the oldest in the region, honored as such for the “down-home” Texas-style of festivals which includes great live music all weekend long as well as a Texas staple barbeque cook-off competition, a car truck and motorcycle show, a beauty pageant, carnival fun for the entire family, a big ol' community parade, and you better believe there will be a fan favorite bull riding competition as well.

Literally something for everyone of all ages!

Here is the full weekend schedule for the Tom-Tom Festival, thanks to the Yoakum Chamber of Commerce on Facebook.

If you are a festival fan like me, this is one that you don't want to miss. We're going to try to head out on Saturday, so if you happen to be going, shout out to us on the station app and we will see if we can meet up just for fun!
