Over the weekend, El Paso police found themselves in a very difficult situation.

On Sunday evening in El Paso Texas,  El Paso Police Officers responded to a call that could have ended tragically. Faced with a very difficult situation, an El Paso police officer chose to use their taser gun to subdue a 10-year-old girl.

According to the El Paso police report, as recorded by Fox-29, the little girl was suicidal. WWPL offers "Officers AND a Crisis Intervention Team arrived after her parents were unable to restrain her and she fled before officers arrived.

How powerful is a taser gun?

Taser guns are designed to send an electrical pulse of 50,000 volts to help subdue a person of interest. Used by police throughout the United States, one report by the Guardian offers that 94% of American police officers carry them, deployed normally to immobilize an adult, by disrupting the peripheral nervous system, which resides outside your brain and spinal cord.

More details of the situation are included in the report.

A police officer found the little girl after arriving on the scene and chased her to apprehend her until, according to the report, she turned around holding a handsaw. That's when police said the girl advanced at the police officer, yelling at the officer to shoot her and in that split second the officer had to make a choice. Subdue the little girl or risk injury.

The long-term effects of being tasered as a youth are not fully known and there are contradictory reports about the after-effects.

Thankfully the 10-year-old was successfully transported to an area hospital and hopefully receiving treatment and possibly counseling.
