Theme Park in Small Texas City to Close This August
Sad news for theme park goers in South Texas. The ZDT Amusement Park in Seguin, Texas, has announced it will be closing in August. ZDT opened to the public in 2007 and has gained a loyal following over the years, myself, included. The amusement park featured the Switchback, the world’s only wooden shuttle coaster, at least at that time.
A gem hidden in the middle of a small Texas town.
One of the really cool things about ZDT is that it is unassumingly located in the middle of Seguin, Texas. You can't see it from I-10. The only way you knew about it was if you were a local or you had direct knowledge of the place. However, over the past 18 years, word of mouth and social media have made ZDT a go-to spot without the big city hassles.
The last operating day will be on August 17, 2025. The Seguin Gazette reports that low attendance and rising costs contributed to the closing of the park. The announcement of the closure was made via Facebook.
Sarah and Danny Donhauser are definitely 'hands-on owners.'
ZDT Amusement has an awesome TikTok page and shows just how 'hands-on' the owners are. In a recent video, you see Danny Danhauser, safety gear in all, about to do daily maintenance on the Switchback. This is the routine that has to be done on the rollercoaster before every operating day.
