Ever get the feeling of "I need a drink; Nothing fancy, but definitely flavorful" and not sure how to fulfill that desire? Well, here is a recipe that has flavor and isn't all that fancy.

LAPD Night Shift Cocktail (original source)
Ingredients:
1 part grenadine syrup
1 part Blue Curacao liqueur
1 part tequila (your choice on what kind)
How To:
Layer into a shot glass. First layer, Grenadine. Second, Blue Curacao. Third, Tequila. Finally, down the hatch.

Is that drink too sweet? I'll admit that I have a serious sweet tooth and tend to favor the more sugary drinks, but that doesn't mean that I will deny you the drinks with more of a bite. In that regard, here a recipe for a drink that is not sweet at all and has that kick you might be looking for.

The All Right Cocktail (original source)
Ingredients:
2 oz Old Overholt Rye Whiskey
¾ oz Cointreau
2 or 3 dashes (about ¼ of a teaspoon) of Angostura Bitters
How To:
Combine all ingredients in an ice-filled mixing glass. Mix it up for a few seconds and strain into a glass (highball recommended, but not everyone has those in their kitchen or designated bar). Serve with ice.

If both of those recipes didn't quite matching your tastes, then maybe this one will. Sure, it could be considered a drink on the sweet side, but rum isn't exactly a spoonful of sugar (especially dark rum). Perhaps this has both the sweetness and bite to it that you are looking for. If not, then maybe this will inspire another drink you are craving.

Lounge Lizard (original source)
Ingredients:
1 ½ oz dark rum
½ oz amaretto liqueur
8 oz Cola (or enough to top off a your glass)
How To:
Pour the dark rum and amaretto into a glass filled with ice. Pour the cola to top off the glass, and then stir well. After the mixture is nice and...well, mixed...proceed to drink at your pace. I recommend a hearty sip, but everyone has their own idea of drink-speed.
