Heroic Texas Officers Leap Into Action as Car Catches on Fire
A graphic video shows the courageous moment San Antonio Police officers Roberto Mireles and Samuel Botello leap into action during a very severe car accident.
RUSHING INTO ACTION
Officer Botello was the first on scene and begins running up to a Jeep that is smashed, flipped over, and began to catch on fire. The officer calls in on his radio, " I can't get the driver out the vehicle's on fire," as he frantically begins to spray the fire down with an extinguisher.
DOOR STUCK, CAR ON FIRE
Officer Botello passes the fire extinguisher to a nearby person and instructs them to continue spraying the vehicle to keep the fire down. Botello then starts tugging the door, but it was jammed and stuck.
Officer Mireles admits, "My worst fear was that the vehicle would blow up and we wouldn't be able to get the people inside the vehicle out."
Officer Mireles joins in and the two officers continue to quickly try and get the door open. However, the door was completely jammed up. The two officers quickly team up, one pulling while the other pushes.
BUSTING THE DOOR OPEN
Finally, the door begins to budge and you can hear the metal from the door cracking. The two officers full of adrenaline use all their strength and get the door open enough to pull the driver out.
"It wasn't just Officer Botello and I working on this putting on the fire and getting everybody extracted, there were also several neighbors that came out and they were extinguishing the fire at the same time."
IT TAKES A COMMUNITY
Firefighters showed up and extinguished the remaining fire, everyone involved in the crash survived thanks to the quick-acting officers and the community behind them who leaped into action and helped.
"We're not just wearing the uniform, it's a duty we take but were here because we love our community we want to take care of everybody else along with our partners and make sure everybody is safe.
