NORAD Has Began the Countdown to Track Santa This Year

Once again, families all around the world will be able to track Santa Claus, thanks to the NORAD website. This will be the 66th year that NORAD will track Santa's journey around the globe as he delivers presents to all the good boys and girls worldwide.

IT ALL STARTED WITH A TYPO:

The annual tradition began in 1955 when a local newspaper ran an advertisement letting children know they could call Santa directly. The original advertisement printed the wrong number in the newspaper which had kids calling the Continental Air Defense Command Operations Center, which eventually become NORAD. U.S. Air Force Colonel Harry Shoup took the initial calls, then assigned a duty officer to continue answering calls for Santa. Every year since then, NORAD has continued the tradition of taking calls on behalf of Santa to update children worldwide on Santa's location.

MANY WAYS TO ACCESS SANTA'S LOCATION:

You can still call starting at 6 AM on Christmas Eve. The number is 1-877-HI-NORAD, Chances are you will hear a live person give the update for Santa's location. Santa can also be tracked through the official NORAD website, starting at 4 AM. on Christmas Eve. The official NORAD Tracks Santa app is also available in the Apple App and Google Play stores. NORAD Amazon Alexa users can ask for Santa's location through the NORAD Tracks Santa skill and OnStar subscribers can press the OnStar button to locate Santa.
