Luke Combs Breaks Garth Brooks’ Hot Country Songs Chart Record
Luke Combs continues to set new records with the release of his latest album, What You See Is What You Get. The country star has broken a long-standing Billboard Hot Country Songs chart record — a record previously held by Garth Brooks.
Due to massive sales and streams, What You See Is What You Get earned Combs 16 charting songs on the Hot Country Songs chart, setting a record for the most entries in a single week for an artist, according to Billboard. Brooks previously charted 12 songs simultaneously on the chart, back in 1997.
Brooks originally set the Hot Country Songs chart record with songs from his album Sevens, which also features a lead single related to beer. Combs' sophomore album's lead single, "Beer Never Broke My Heart," reached No. 2 on the Hot Country Songs chart in August, while Brooks' lead single, "Longneck Bottle," reached a peak position of No. 3.
Back in June, Combs tied a record with Johnny Cash when he released his EP The Prequel. That project placed five songs in the Top 25 of the Hot Country Songs chart, allowing Combs to become the first artist to do so since Cash did 60 it years earlier.
"Even Though I'm Leaving," Combs' latest single, is his highest currently charting song, at No. 2. Combs' lowest new entry to the chart is "Angles Workin' Overtime," which debuted at No. 49.
What You See Is What You Get also set a new streaming record for country albums, as it became the first country album to achieve 70 million streams in a single week. The large number streams combined with massive sales of physical copies allowed the album to debut at No. 1 on both Billboard's Top Country Albums chart and all-genre 200 chart.
