Many of us go to the bank, take care of our transactions, and walk out without a care in the world. However, everyone who visits the bank can become a target for "jugging," and the Victoria Police Department is urging residents to remain vigilant.

Always be aware of your surroundings when going to a bank.

They know there is money in those envelopes.

The suspect will then follow this person to their next stop, whether it's a home, a grocery store, or any location. Once the victim is parked and the person goes inside, the suspect will break into the victim’s vehicle and steal the money. The crime only takes a few seconds.

Here are a couple of tips to help keep you safe from jugging.

The Victoria Police Department has a few tips for residents to protect themselves from being a victim of "jugging."
  • Look for people backed into parking spaces and just sitting.
  • If you have a little white envelope, be sure you put it in your purse or pocket so it's not seen.
  •  Keep a lookout for a vehicle that could be following you.

Thanks to TikTok video by nichellelaus , here is a more detailed video sharing safety tips when it comes to jugging.

@nichellelaus It amazes me how vulnerable people are at a bank. The setting is usually quiet making it easy for anyone to hear the teller and the customer so if someone is withdrawing a lot of money you can usually hear all the details including the amount. Once the customer leaves the bank, they are highly susceptible to being a victim of theft or robbery. Ensure you taking low when you’re discussing banking details with the teller. Try not to be distracted while at the bank. be aware of your surroundings, and the people around you. Don’t count your money where others can see you. If you received money at the counter place it directly on your person or in your bag. Don’t walk out to the bank, holding in plain sight, zippered, bank bag, or the white small envelopes that tellers put cash in when you make a withdrawal. Anyone could be monitoring you and working together with someone else either inside or outside the back so pay extra attention to anyone hanging around the lobby of the bank, or the parking lot who does not appear occupied. Do not leave large amount of money inside your vehicle and if you believe you’re being followed from a financial institution for any length of time, call 911 or drive to the nearest police station. Stay safe! #SafetyTok#jugging♬ Mrs. Right - Mindless Behavior
