How does a Catholic Priest say thank you to donors and to continue to raise money? By brewing beer, of course. That's my kind of Priest!

The Rev. Ryan Higdon, an Associate Pastor at St. Mary's Catholic Center in College Station has joined forces with New Republic Brewery to create a brew called 'Ale Mary' beer, as a way to thank it's donors and raise more money.

Speaking to a Bryan-College Station newspaper about the project, Higdon said "we're just having fun." The idea goes a long way back, and the new brew is a throwback to what's known as a 'patersbier', a tradition of Trappist monks in Belguim. It's also been referred to as a 'table beer', low in alcohol, and enjoyed with meals throughout the day.

New Republic Brewery plans to sell the special beer in its tap room, and give half of the proceeds from its sales to St. Mary's.
