There have been rumors since last fall that one particularly slimy character from the original Ghostbusters film would be returning for Paul Feig’s new film, seemingly confirmed by an IMDb credit. But then Feig went and did what J.J. Abrams tried to do with that whole Khan / Star Trek Into Darkness thing — he flat-out denied it, even though this was a pretty viable rumor about a character we all sort of expected would appear. Guess what? The rumor was true, and Ghostbusters star Michael K. Williams has confirmed it himself.

When it was rumored that Slimer would return for Feig’s new Ghostbusters, this is what the director had to say:

But in a chat with Entertainment Weekly, Michael K. Williams spills the beans:

I’m not going to lie, working with Melissa, and Kristen, and Kate, was really dope. But I got to work with Slimer, dude. Like Slimer!!! I’m in a scene with Slimer! I’m a huge Ghostbusters fan and it was a dream come true.

LIKE SLIMER! Williams is so pumped. It’s great. Even though the original rumor had enough sources to make us believe that the gluttonous green ghost would return, there were still doubts — he doesn’t appear on the packaging for Hi-C’s revived Ecto Cooler (which Feig says will be hitting shelves very, very soon), nor is he on the boxes of Hostess’ new slime green Twinkies (gross, but also…maybe delicious?).

Not only does Williams confirm Slimer’s return, but he also reveals his role in the film:

I play the FBI agent who works for the mayor. Our whole thing is, we’re going to tell the people it was a flash in the sky and ‘Run along little women with your ghosts, we got this.’

Williams co-stars with Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon in Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters, which also stars Chris Hemsworth and features cameos from Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts. The first trailer arrives on March 3, and the film hits theaters on July 15.
